When I began my entrepreneur journey, I would never have thought wellness and self-care were an essential part of maintaining balance with my professional and personal life. As a former full-time educator, that never really fit into our professional development. Definitely not the case for AMSE!
The AMSE community inspires me and fellow entrepreneurs every day to be a force as a professional- challenging myself and networking with others to grow and work together. AMSE also advocates for the military spouse entrepreneurs to embrace self-care in such a new and innovative way. This amazing community even incorporates it into our scheduled events and guest speaker presentations. Such a win-win!
Once I decided to live a more balanced life, I sought out resources within the membership community. Check out these amazing military spouse entrepreneurs, who are here for you and your wellness!
Mary-Catherine LaBossiere
My name is Mary-Catherine LaBossiere, and I am a military spouse, registered dietitian, dog mama, and business owner! I own and operate Defy Nutrition. My mission at Defy Nutrition is to empower and educate women to create sustainable nutrition habits to break the generational diet cycle and live a long, happy life. My best advice for work-life balance is to set and respect your boundaries. These boundaries may be time-related (i.e., not working past a particular hour), technology-related (i.e., setting app limits on your phone), or people-related (i.e., setting aside time for yourself!).
Manda McVey
I am a holistic wellness practitioner, master resilience trainer, behavior change specialist, fitness nutrition educator, writer, speaker, chef, and yoga & meditation instructor. The name of my business is Healitary Spouse, LLC. I guide Military spouses to overcome the overwhelming uncertainty of military life by incorporating wellness and resilience techniques into their everyday routines. By focusing on mindfulness, nutrition, and volunteerism (aka gaining by giving), I help them become more flexible and feel more included in their communities on and off installations while building solid foundations to work from. My best advice on having a work-life balance, keeping wellness a priority, and staying healthy is to USE CALENDARS!!! It's an easy way to stay connected to what is happening with other family members and keep them informed about what is going on with you. My husband and I use Google Calendar, and we have subscribed to each others'. That way, our virtual calendars are continually updated with what is going on in each other's lives. We can schedule necessary appts without having to do a lot of coordinating. Our family also prepares breakfast and lunch for everyone the night before. We often do it as a team project, so it gets done faster, and it helps our family connect around something together.
Louise Valentine
Louise Valentine is an award-winning wellness expert, competitive athlete & fierce Army spouse. She owns BadassBreakthroughAcademy.com, a virtual health and performance academy helping others learn how to maximize their mind and body's ability to perform. Louise empowers her students to learn the right strategies, in the right plan, apply at the right time to go from good to great, burnt out to badass, and consistently crush their goals! The best advice she has for those working to keep wellness a priority is to find and own ways to make wellness work for you, embracing the idea that you do not need to do more or buy more to gain the cutting-edge to live a vibrant, healthy life!
