Branding is a huge part of your business and how your company or product will ultimately sell. But the process feels challenging and stressful for many. There is a lot riding on these decisions!
AMSE brought in a personal branding expert to help our members feel more at ease with their branding needs.
Phil Pallen hosted our Masterclass to share how we can use Adobe Express to quickly and easily create graphics specific to your brand. Phil is a digital nomad and globetrotter, delivering speeches on five continents. In addition, he frequently appears as an expert contributor in media outlets worldwide, including CNN, Access Hollywood, and The Daily Mail.
Phil has a non-conventional approach to digital marketing and talent for social media, which has built him a global audience. He has advised hundreds of brands from over 30 countries, including a Shark on Shark Tank, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, politicians, and some of the most influential names in entertainment.
Our brand creates how we communicate who we are, what we stand for, and what we offer. It helps us work towards consistency between the in-person experience and the online version of ourselves. That is the motivation.
Phil broke down some key elements of marketing and branding into an easy metaphor: a playground.
Your brand is your playground.
The best brands recreate the in-person experience online. That’s where everyone is, right? And branding is an art and a science. You will have to play around with it to find the best fit for your brand, audience, and goals. So get on that playground! Try something new, take a leap or bold move, and see what sticks. And if it doesn’t work or serve you any longer, rebrand. It’s your brand and your playground.
For Phil, there are a few elements of branding that have worked for him: position, build, promote. Where do you want to put it? What does that look like? Where will you promote it? Get your basics figured out and go from there.
Your time is your recess.
None of us feels as if we have more time. But when you have it, Phil recommends that you maximize it. Follow the Three P’s in order to leverage your brand efficiently.
Parameters: How much time do you have to dedicate to social media in a week? What are your goals for your business?
Prioritize: What platform do you enjoy creating on? It isn’t just about creating to create. Where do you enjoy being? And Where is your audience? Where do they enjoy being?
Platforms: Instead of being average on ten platforms, be a rockstar on three or a superstar on one. Go back to prioritize and really shine on those!
Your Instagram is your jungle gym.
Instagram is one of those platforms that you either love or loathe, but it is a vital part of a marketing plan. With its emphasis on visual marketing and eye appeal, it’s a great way to visually promote your brand. To make it simpler, here are the five vital parts to focus on:
Feed: Share your knowledge and perspective with static posts, graphics, and images.
Stories: Connect with your audience on a personal level or share posts to bring people in to your business.
IG Live: Efficiently create content to repurpose while also sharpening your presentation skills! This is a great way to reach your audience and present your brand and/or business with more time.
Video: Video is king. With IG Live, you are routinely creating video content to share over and over again! You can also use videos to showcase products, behind-the-scenes elements, and more.
Reels: These are worth experimenting with to see what you like creating and what your audience likes consuming. Anything goes with Reels!
Your YouTube is your swing set.
Why the distinction between YouTube and Instagram if both create and share videos? YouTube is for your long-form videos, tutorials, interviews, and more.
When establishing your brand on YouTube, it’s all about the workflow. Research your title and write a script or talking points. A few takeaways or reminders to state your business and mission are great to have at eye level. Film the video and edit it, adding your branding elements and making sure that it is a video that represents you. If you need to, outsource this! Finally, post your video with an eye-catching, branded thumbnail and title that uses keywords in the description.
Adobe Express gives you the ability to create a Thumbnail for YouTube quickly. When you’re in Adobe, you can access tons of stock photos to help you with your design or upload your
