Experienced in financial advising, along with corporate and financial banking, Delano Saporu brought his experience, energy, and enthusiasm to our Masterclass about Business Development and Strategy for Entrepreneurs.
Taking a leap of faith and leaving his corporate job, Delano shares what he learned from starting with zero clients less than two and half years ago to serving 350 clients today. His informative and engaging class gave us so many takeaways!
Here are the biggest points I learned in the first AMSE Masterclass of 2022:
Create your business plan, but don’t think you need a lengthy business plan over a long period of time. There’s a lot of information online.
Who’s your ideal client?
Age, demographic, income, etc.
What’s the best way to get your message in front of them?
Where do they live, hang out, and work?
Track and monitor your leads and progress. Use a spreadsheet to keep up with how you’re doing over a period of time.
Get your message out there with your brand. If you need to rebrand, do it! You need to show that you’re an expert and why you’re the best one for the job.
Content is key. Pay attention to how you're getting the message across. Use what will meet your audience where they are and be consistent.
Collaborations are great but don’t get consumed and distracted with what others are doing in your community. Find what works for you. You’re not trying to reach those who do what you do; your job is to find clients.
Pray and spray, then refine. This means staying diverse in the beginning when it comes to your brand and who you’ll work with. Find what works for you. Maybe you need a podcast or a blog? Maybe you need to change something up with your branding? Once you find what’s working, refine it and stick with it!
Networking, cold outreach, and referrals are necessary!
Prospecting is an active job, whether it is people or a brand you know or cold outreach.
You may send out 100 touchpoints to hear back from 5 people to get 1 meeting. Don’t give up!
Identify pain points and present solutions. This is why they need to work with you, and only you can solve their problem.
Follow-up with leads but don’t waste your time. If you haven’t heard back after 1 - 2 attempts, move on. There are plenty of fish in the sea.
Your first and only goal is to get the call scheduled. Don’t get overwhelmed by all the steps until you get the call!
Prospecting tips for the newbie or anyone looking for a refresh.
Are they actively social, or do they present an email in their bio?
You book the call; don’t send the email for them to book the call. Take the initiative! Your enthusiasm and approach will leave an impression.
Be intentional when tracking your outreach.
Use the 1 - 1- 1 Strategy for cold outreach.
Lead with one idea. Keep it simple but powerful.
Email can be read and responded to in under one minute. Don’t overwhelm them with information, or they’ll skip your email. Keep it short and to the point.
The prospect only needs to take ONE action. No one likes to have to take multiple steps.
Intro to Meeting Strategy: how to sell effectively.
Define their problems - ask them what their pain points and goals are.
Describe the impact - show how you can fix their pain points and help them reach their goals.
Create urgency - they “need” your service, and they need it right away.
Propose a solution and solidify the next steps.
Adjustments can be made as you work.
Pay attention to the market about your pricing. Never undersell yourself!
