Military Spouses Launch the First Global Association for Military Spouse Entrepreneurs
(Newark NJ, January 16, 2019) Association of Military Spouse Entrepreneurs (AMSE) is a global centralized network where military spouse entrepreneurs and organizations find the connections, tools, and resources they need to make an impact in the military community. AMSE offers free membership for milspouse entrepreneurs, campaign opportunities and collaborations with brands, and strategic military media and marketing.
Military spouse entrepreneurs are one of the most underserved populations with the highest unemployment rate (roughly 24%) in the country. This is due, in part, to the constant relocation and military members’ unpredictable schedule of TDYs (temporary duty assignments) or deployments. These circumstances don’t allow spouses to keep a consistent record of employment, thus making it hard to establish themselves within a company, or practice thier trained professions.
Statistics show that meaningful work and financial wealth help improve a person's self-esteem, relationships and overall mental health within the household. Many spouses struggle with the feeling of self-worth and confidence when they find themselves unable to contribute to the household because of work restraints of being a military spouse.
This situation is forcing spouses to turn to remote work and entrepreneurship to change the narrative, contribute financially, gain and exercise their profession and build self-confidence. Military spouse entrepreneurs’ needs are unique. Many spouses have degrees, certificates, and vast experience they can put into practice by creating their own company. Starting a business means they have control of the work hours, clients, and are able to work remotely no matter where the military sends their family.
As a multi venture entrepreneur herself, CEO and Founder Moni Jefferson has had her share of struggles and frustrations working for others. This is why she decided to become an entrepreneur and launch several businesses, raising millions of capital and taking control of their professional and financial future. Knowing the struggle with building, managing, and scaling a business virtually Moni to launch AMSE.
Moni found that there were limited resources and communities catering exclusively to military spouse entrepreneurs. There were many resources and organizations for military spouse careers and employment but none specifically served the niche military spouse entrepreneur.
AMSE aims to fill a much-overlooked niche from many angles. AMSE offers three ways to invest, impact and ignite the military community.
Invest: Educating organizations and brands on the military lifestyle and how to market to them with grassroots strategy. Within their organization, AMSE hires teams of military spouse freelancers to write copy, run social media, photographers, and freelance writers so that the investment that companies are making in their marketing campaigns, is being returned to the military community tenfold.
Impact: AMSE connects military spouse influencers and freelancers with organizations who want to make an impact with their products and services in the military community. Recent partners with brands who want to work with impact advocates (military spouses influencers) on campaigns include New York Fashion Week, GovX, Macy’s, and Instasleep. The Association also offers campaigns to partner with a database of over 2,000 military spouses freelancers, photographers, bloggers, and various entrepreneurs.
Ignite: AMSE offers a paid and free membership for military spouse entrepreneurs, where spouses have access to an online membership area, resources and masterclasses, virtual co-working spaces, events, paid campaign opportunities, and much more. The goal of the membership is to guide and support spouses on their entrepreneurial journey. The membership is for spouses in any stage of business from ideation, building or scaling, and of every branch and services, active or retired.
Military Spouses are often left behind to pick up and coordinate the chaos of the family and the home because a service member’s career must come first. However, the narrative is now getting louder and military spouses can have rewarding and meaningful careers as well. We can find passion and purpose in our work. We can do it all while juggling our families and our military life by doing it on our own terms, as entrepreneurs and small business owners.
Today, we are coming together to help more spouses realize that they too can have the dream of owning their own career or business. It’s our turn. Our time is now!
“I am beyond honored by the positive and collaborative response we have had from our community. I wanted to create a space I only wished existed for myself years ago and bring awareness to organizations and brands on how unique and special our community is. I am pumped for what the future holds, not only for AMSE but our milspouse entrepreneurs and organizations who want to have a bigger footprint in the military community,” said Moni Jefferson, CEO/Founder of AMSE.
